Smart Choices/Smart Use
In Ontario today, demand for electricity has outstripped our ability to generate power. Each summer over the
past several years, Ontario has successively set new records for peak use – the maximum amount of power
passing through the electricity grid at one time.
To ensure the province’s electricity needs can be met in the future, we each need to take more responsibility
for our individual consumption and peak use. To enable this fundamental change to take place, Ontario has
instituted the Smart
Meter Initiative.
